Positive Mood while Exercising Influences Beneficial Effects of Exercise with Music on Prefrontal Executive Function: A Functional NIRS Study

چکیده
Much attention has been focused on physical exercise benefits to mental health such as mood and cognitive function. Our recent studies have consistently shown that a single bout of elicits increased task-related brain activation mainly in the dorsolateral part prefrontal cortex (DLPFC), which results improved executive performance. As DLPFC is associated with modulation well function, it tempting hypothesize exercising while positive would facilitate beneficial effects function via activation. Thus, we conceived an experiment used music elicit during exercise. Thirty-three young adults performed ten minutes moderate-intensity (50% V.O2peak) pedaling two experimental conditions: listening beeps at steady tempo. Mood were respectively assessed using Two-Dimensional Scale color-word-matching Stroop task before after sessions. Prefrontal was monitored functional near-infrared spectroscopy. Exercise elicited greater enhancement (vitality) than did beeps. Contrary our hypothesis, there no significant differences between conditions improvement performance cortical left-DLPFC. The correlation analyses, however, revealed correlations among vitality, shortened interference time These support hypothesis influences benefit

Effects of acute exercise on executive function: a study with a Tower of London Task.
The purpose of this study is to extend the literature by examining the effects of an acute bout of moderate to vigorous intensity aerobic exercise on the executive functions of planning and problem solving assessed using a Tower of London Task (TOL Task). Forty-two participants were randomly assigned into either exercise or control group, and performed the TOL Task, before and immediately follo...

Executive function (EF) refers to the higher-order cognitive control process for the attainment of a specific goal. There are several subcomponents of EF, such as inhibition, cognitive shifting, and working memory. Extensive neuroimaging research in adults has revealed that the lateral prefrontal cortex plays an important role in EF. Developmental studies have reported behavioral evidence showi...

Objective. This study examined the relationship between neural activity and executive function (EF) by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). In addition, an oral reading span test (RST) was used to explore this association. Methods. Fifteen adults participated in the study. We used the RST and simple reading as the two tasks. Results. The RST score and cortical hemodynamic response in the left inf...
